Tonight was the annual Pig Iron BBQ, benefiting Children's Harbor. The event is held at Regions Park in Hoover. Each year, local companies sponsor the event and cook up a wide variety of barbecue. Each corporate sponsor is given booth space and company employees decorate their booth along a specific theme.
Wendy and I decided to take the boys there this evening. The event lasted from 5-8. We arrived around 6. We dressed warmly, because the weather turned much cooler this past Wednesday. After entering, we went around and sampled some of the barbecue. There was a large crowd in attendance, so navigating the stroller was a bit challenging.
I was interested in sampling the food, but Phoenix was drawn to the kiddie area, where they had games, face painting, balloon animals, and a bouncy house. Phoenix loved the bouncy house and he walked out of the kiddie area with a blue balloon in the shape of a rocket (thanks to the nimble hands of a bearded clown). Fox received a green balloon poodle. Phoenix also won a little whistle from one of the sponsor booths. They had a little "Finding Nemo" fishing game set up. Phoenix dropped his rod over the wall and pulled up a whistle.
By the end of the night I had eaten 6 ribs, 1 pork sandwich, 2 pieces of sausage, and apple pie with ice cream. I shared some of my ice cream with Phoenix and Fox, and they were very appreciative. Fox kept pointing at me and said, "Dah-unh." That was his way of saying "More ice cream."
Everyone had a great evening, but now I'm so full I can't move. Tomorrow, we're off to Old Baker's Farm to get our pumpkins for Halloween. I can't believe it's been a year already since we went out there.
