Letter A Fun!

It's that time again...school is starting slowly again at our house...and I mean slowly. We are easing into the curriculum for the fall and seeing where I need to scrap certain things and where I need to add certain things. I am very excited to be using the A Beka 3 & 4K Phonics & Numbers curriculum for the Fall with Phoenix. He loves the songs and doing the flashcards. He asked to do that daily. The CD is fantastic and really helps him to learn the letter sounds. Fox likes to hear the songs too, but is more fascinated with the CD player, so sometimes our songs get interrupted.
A Beka Flashcard, it's huge and has a great story about Alexander Alligator on the back and helps him learn how to write the letter A using the story. It's awesome!
The boys woke up to the Letter A Hopscotch waiting for them in the foyer. Phoenix was so excited and did it several times before breakfast. Mr. F just casually walked over them several times laughing and pointing to the pictures of the apples.

Fox loved working with his red apple sorting cards from Letter of the Week (from Confessions of a Homeschooler site). He decided that he wanted a real apple during snack time!
Play time outside! It happened to be a cool day, which meant we got to stay outside longer...YAY for those days...Fall hurry up and get here!
Phoenix is really obsessed with wanting to tell time. So thanks to the Target $1 section (which I love). I found a foam clock and flashcards. The flashcards are great because it has roman numerials on them and regular numbers. He really got into sorting the flashcards.

Also in the $1 Target section...foam shapes. Fox loves these, especially the circles! He rolled them everywhere, until they decided to go under the coffee table.

Phoenix has also really got into cutting with his scissors more...thank goodness...I thought he would never start liking that. He sat and cut contruction paper for a good 20 minutes and loved it. His words were "Mommy that was tough". He likes a good challenge!

At the end of our letter A week, we went on a "field trip" to the Birmingham Public Library. I had not been there in years and had never been to the kids area at all. Wow, it's so nice and has lots of cool things for the kids to play with. They have a huge wooden train that you can go inside of and since both the boys love Thomas the Train this was a huge hit. Fox also loved the magnet board and organizing the shapes. We will definitely be going there again. Phoenix loves going through "the city" and seeing all the tall buildings.

Overall it was a great start to our first week. We had lots of fun and learned some things. I am working on finalizing Phoenix's Five in A Row material and we will start that after Labor Day. We will be doing The Story About Ping first and learning all about China. I love watching my boys learn and most of all I love being their teacher...and their Mommy! Best boys in the world!
